Celebrated scholar and civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois prepares to deliver a thundering address for June 1 commencement exercises. Robert Page Sims, Bluefield's president at the time, invited Du Bois and also set up lectures for him elsewhere in West Virginia that year.
